Obituary for Cydney Sharon Hammett

Cydney Sharon Hammett, 77, of Oakley, passed away peacefully November 11, 2017 in Walnut Creek, California.

Cydney was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on April 19, 1940. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1957. Her first job was with Greyhound in San Francisco. Her last job was with Central Contra Costa Sanitary District.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sydney Doe and Sharon “Bamsi” Eastman, and her brother, Eddie Baker.

Cydney is survived by her husband of 60 years, Billy Hammett. She is also survived by her children; Mark, Matthew (his wife, Roxanne), Timothy (and his fiancé Christina), Ricci McKenna (and her husband Mark), her grandchildren; Alyssa, Melissa, Taylor, Jacob, Ashley, Antonio, Alexia, Michael, Jessica, Hailee, Jacob, Hunter, Karli, and Nicolas, and her pets; Eli, Brooke, and Spice.

Her love for Rhodesian Ridgebacks’ started 21 years ago, and the breed became part of the family. She became a member of the Bay Area Rhodesian Ridgeback Club, B.A.R.C. Two years ago, she became the Recording Secretary for a year. She was also a member of the Mt. Diablo Dog Club. Attending dog shows was frequent for Cydney and it’s safe to say she would attend, and be part of, at least 45 a year.

A Celebration of Life, for all to attend, will be held at Golden Hills Community Church, 2401 Shady Willow Lane, Brentwood, Ca. 94513, on November 21, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Larry Adams will be officiating.

A private family service will be held at Oakmont Mortuary, 2099 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette, Ca. 94549, on November 22, 2017 at 11:00 am.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Wilson Tsai for being an advocate for Cydney, as well the John Muir Medical Center staff professionals for their love and support in her final days.
