Obituary for Arthur Stanton Perkins

Arthur Stanton Perkins
Arthur S. Perkins
Resident of Moraga
July 20, 1928 - April 6, 2017

Arthur Stanton Perkins departed this life peacefully in the early hours of April 6, 2017 following a very difficult year and multiple hospitalizations. His strength, faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and good humor inspired us all.
Arthur was born in Chicago, IL the beloved adopted-son of Charlene (Reed Johnston) and O. Robert Perkins. He joined sister Margaret (Hofer, deceased). Later arrivals were brother John (deceased) and favorite baby sister Dorothy Montague (Dick) of Germantown, NY.
Arthur married his first love Barbara (Lethen, deceased) with whom he happily shared 47 years and was the father of Katherine McGuigan (Daniel) of Hornbrook, CA and Mark Perkins (Teresa) of Capay, CA.
Arthur graduated from the University of Delaware in Chemical Engineering and later received a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois. He was a CA licensed Professional Engineer spending the greater part of his successful career at Air Liquide America as Applications and Process Manager for Pulp and Paper industries and the Gold Mining industry. During this time he participated in development of several patented processes. In retirement he continued independent consulting until 2011. At Air Liquide he had many colleagues who continued their long friendship and intensified their support, love and respect throughout this past year.
Arthur served in the US Army in the 1950s during the Korean conflict, attaining the rank of Sargent.
In addition to his children and sister, Arthur is survived by his loving wife Mary Anne (O’Leary) who blessed the last 15 years of his life, and grandchildren Kerry Gillette (Marcus) of Bend OR, Michael McGuigan (his fellow Eagle Scout) of Hornbrook CA, Beth Perkins (Aaron Reyes) of Oakland CA and Joshua Perkins of Woodland CA. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Kira Adele Reyes and Moses Emmanuel Gillette, multiple nieces and nephews and a special brother-in-law - Theodore Lethen (Peg) of Loudon TN.
Arthur was an avid fly fisherman and fine woodworker. Pursuits he shared with his son, son-in-law, and grandsons leaving them many fond memories. He was a skilled gardener (in particular, with his roses) and loved jazz music. He was active in sharing his life–long faith through service at Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, Bible Study Fellowship, and Man to Man outreach.
The Family wishes to thank the outstanding health professionals who cared for Art in his later years, especially this past year: William Strauss MD, Tricia Yeap MD, Ryan Brown MD, Kristin Kramer MD, Gigi Chen MD, the John Muir Infectious Disease Medical Group as well as the excellent staffs at John Muir Medical Center, ManorCare Tice Valley Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center, John Muir Home Health, and Hospice of the East Bay.
Special thanks are due the support of Joanne White and Randall White, wonderful friends and neighbors, and Paloma Hernandez with Comfort Keepers, a very gifted caregiver.
Friends and family are invited to a service and celebration of life Saturday May 13, 2017 at 10:30am at Oakmont Memorial Park Lafayette CA to be followed by a reception at St. Mary’s College of California Moraga CA Faculty Dining Room/Lounge.
In lieu of flowers donations in Art’s memory may be made to World Vision, s5Lifegate (Missoula MT), Forest Home Christian Conference Center (Forest Falls CA), or the charity of your choice.
