Obituary for Kenneth Meinecke

Kenneth Alfred Meinecke
Resident of Walnut Creek
April 30, 1934 ~ February 2, 2017

Kenneth A. Meinecke passed away unexpectedly on Thursday in the yard in which he loved to garden and grow flowers. He found such joy in serving others; and has touched many lives with his humor, contagious smile, acts of service, and Bible teaching.

Ken was born in St. Louis, MO and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. While stationed in Monterey, CA, he met his beloved wife, Alma Louise (Hartman) Meinecke. They were married on December 26, 1954. Ken earned his Bachelors and Masters degree in Education at San Jose State University; and then worked as an elementary school teacher, school principal, and district administrator in the Campbell Union School District from 1959 to 1981.

In 1980, he received his Doctoral Degree from University of Southern California (USC) in Education. He was hired by Walnut Creek School District, and served as Superintendent for 14 years until he retired in 1995.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Alma Louise Meinecke; three children: Michael K. Meinecke of Susanville, Susan L. Frost of Lafayette, and June D. Meinecke of Sacramento; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. His kindness and sense of humor will also be sorely missed by a myriad of in-laws, nieces and nephews in St. Louis, church friends, and the close-knit neighborhood of Dantley Way. His older brother, Carl A. Meinecke of St. Louis, MO preceded Ken in death.

All friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Covenant Church, 2060 Magnolia Way, Walnut Creek, CA. Please join us in honoring Ken’s well-lived life!
